[00:00:04] Hello and welcome to Talking Cards with Grand Salami and The Jewce. It is me, The Juice here with you today, but I do have a special guest helping us out without salami here. We have Slapsquatch, Corey with us. How you doing? What's up Juice, how's it going man? Good. So he's been a guest with us a couple times before. You know him from Twitter, from his at Waxmetrics and yeah, he gives us the breakdown of the odds and we wanted him here today because we have a big product release coming out.
[00:00:32] And it's a shame because it's Grand Salami's favorite that he couldn't be here for. We are talking about Topps Cosmic Chrome Baseball 2026. Are you excited? Yes, sir. It's one of my favorite releases. I know it's Bert's too. Yeah, everyone, everyone loves this. So there's some people that definitely has. It's people that just don't get it, but I love it. You love it. Bert loves it. I'm sure plenty of the listeners love it.
[00:00:55] So if you're new to the show, we do a lot of product deep dives. That's what we're going to be doing today. Topps Cosmic Chrome Baseball comes out next week, but we also cover hobby news, just hobby events, just information they need to know. We talked about PSA theft, things like that.
[00:01:12] So before we get started, I do also want to shout out Card Purchaser. Make sure to follow him on Twitter or X if you aren't already. That's at Card Purchaser. He always has the latest info on product drops and releases. But if you do want the quickest updates in real time, join his discord. There you can find more than just product drops info. You can also get notifications for restocks across retail and all categories of sports cards and trading cards, too.
[00:01:36] So if you're always missing out because you feel like you're just 10 minutes too late, join that because he will give that to you in real time or you don't have to worry about being late on that. All right. So the odds have been out of this for a while now, right? Yeah, they came out before the pre-orders. Actually, it was wild, which obviously a step in the end. More than a step in the right direction. It's like a leap in the right direction. You have to be able to have that information so early.
[00:02:03] And if you don't have the info when it's releasing, it is due to release next Wednesday, November 4th. Pre-order was in October. It came in at $49.99. Probably release day is going to be $4.99.99, I'd assume. They have not said it's EQL, which I'm surprised. Pre-order was not. It looks like it's going to be just a straight-up release. So I know I told some of you to save your EQL points with 5-star and not to do that, to use it for Cosmic Chrome.
[00:02:33] But it's just going to be straight up, so you're just going to have to battle. What are your thoughts on that? Can I ask you, would you rather an EQL release or would you rather just a straight-up, just fight the bots and see what you can do? I've had more luck fighting the bots than EQL. So that's my personal experience. Yeah, I can't speak for everyone. But yeah, I feel like it should be EQL, but it seems like no one ever has any luck with those. Right.
[00:03:02] But yeah. If they limit it to the right amount, a couple boxes per person, I feel like the EQL, some recent one, a lot of people succeeded on EQL. But it was only two boxes per person. So that helps. And then just making anything available on just to the general public. So they can do it. It's just a matter of, I don't know. I succeeded on this one, so I was pretty happy about that. I got the cap of four boxes. Nice.
[00:03:28] But like you, I have better luck when it's just released and released to the hounds. Some people don't have the benefit that we have. My job has the flexibility where I can just be doing that for a moment. But some people are just busy. So an EQL where they can just maybe check in one time for the hour, it's just not fair to them with something that sells out so quick. Because it's right in the middle of a weekday always. Yeah. Yeah, it's definitely tricky. But yeah, I prefer it for me personally.
[00:03:57] But from a total hobby standpoint, the thing that I really wish they did is I don't think they should really have cases available for public purchasing. I'd rather that just be broken down into boxes. That, we might have a lot of people disagreeing on that. But no one that I know really has actually been able to purchase cases in a long time on any sort of product. Yeah, it says they have cases, but do they really? Maybe five? Yeah. Yeah, that's where the bots really feast, it seems. Mm-hmm.
[00:04:26] But Wednesday, November 4th, Topps Cosmic Chrome Baseball, that is. We now have to specify, of course. Mm-hmm. Probably going to be $500 a box, 20 packs per box, four cards per pack. No guaranteed autos. There are autos to be found, but they are not guaranteed as always. In the past, we've seen, like, what is it, 12 boxes per case and four autos per case is usually where we were coming in at, I think. I have the boxes per case eight.
[00:04:55] I think they changed that last year, made it eight boxes per case. It was a big deal because some of the numbers were still figured on 12 boxes per case. So, I know it was a mess. But, so, I think it's still eight this year as it was last year. Okay. All right. And if you are new to Cosmic Chrome, so this is an abbreviated checklist from regular Chrome. It is a much different design. This year, they've actually updated the design. It looks much different than past years.
[00:05:25] They've got this vector kind of thing going on, and then it breaks off into space, and it's got different planets. So, it's all space, Cosmos theme. And then we have a number of different inserts and things that represent that as well. But, yeah, very different design this year. How do you feel? Are you a fan of this? I think I need to see it in hand. And some of the things, I think, should be more vibrant and colorful. The bass, I don't know.
[00:05:54] I don't know if I'm a fan of the way the bass looks as opposed to last year. It is more, you know, there's just more going on. It's just kind of more gaudy. But some of the stuff, for sure. I love some of those, you know. Like, I'm looking at a Caglione Magenta Cosmo Refractor. It's to $299, but it looks fantastic, you know. That's a new parallel this year. So, now the parallel is up to $299. And, yeah, I'm looking at that one, too. And that one looks great. Yeah, the way that it's just breaking off into space and everything.
[00:06:23] Yeah, it's just the magenta. It really, it's the appropriate color for it as well. It's a fantastic looking car. Some of the inserts we'll talk about. You know, the Planetary Pursuits are a little different this year. A couple of new things to talk about. But we'll get on to that. Yeah. Yeah. Let's start with the base checklist. So, the base checklist, we have 200 players on this. 14 different parallels. I'll read them off because there's just 14 of them.
[00:06:52] Not like flagship or something. We have refractors. Nucleus refractors, which come at one per box. White hole refractors. Those three are unnumbered guys. New this year, we have the Magenta Cosmos refractor. Aqua Equinox. Purple Nebula. Blue Moon. Green Space Dust. Gold Interstellar. Orange Galactic. Lunar Eclipse. Now we're down to out of 10. Black Eclipse out of 10 as well. Red Flare.
[00:07:21] And then we have our super fractures. And the White Hole as well. I think you missed that one. Yeah, I hit White Hole. Okay. Yeah, that is unnumbered. Is that a case hit, the White Hole? It's showing one in two boxes. Okay. So, not a case hit. Four per case, we'll say. Okay. And then as far as the players that you can find, we have, like I said, it's 200. So, it's a review checklist. Just the top players.
[00:07:51] Rookies and vets. You're not going to really find legends in here, I don't believe. But we have Otani kicking off the checklist. Jack Kags. Jonathan. To Lauder. Big Dumper. Lindor. Lindor. Lindor. Acuna. Julio. PCA. Justin Crawford. Murakami. Soto. Carter Jensen. Kyna Griffin. Travis Pazana. Bisayo. Kulsa Montgomery. Yamamoto. Bryce Harper. JJ Weatherholt.
[00:08:22] Bobby Witt Jr. Wyatt Langford. Who I hit his super fracture a few years ago in one of the boxes that I got, which I loved. Oh, wow. Yeah. That was a good. That was a crazy box. But anyway. Cam Schlittler going back to the rookies. Yassavage. Bryce Eldridge. Nolan McLean. Imai. Carson Benj. Corbin Carroll. Mike Trout. I'm only halfway through the checklist, so this is loaded with good names. Aaron Judge. Cam Smith.
[00:08:50] Freddie Peralta, who's pitching tonight. I don't know how he's doing right now. Pete Alonzo. Carson Wisenhut. Roman Anthony. Nick Kurtz. Kevin McGonigal. Mizorowski. I'm really just trying to read the big names, but yeah, we got a ton of solid names. I'm about to be through it quicker. Sal Stewart. Chase Burns. Ali Dele Cruz. Mookie Betts. And yeah, that will about do it for the big names. I don't think I missed anybody too big.
[00:09:20] We have 78 rookies across the whole checklist. Not necessarily across the base, but we have 78 rookies total in this set. How do you feel about this base checklist? You think it's solid? I like a good 200 card checklist. I think it's about right for a product like this. If there were 100 card checklists, I think you'd probably see too many duplicates and stuff. The print run on the base cards is about 22,500. So a little over 20,000 apiece on the base cards.
[00:09:49] I think that's a good tight number for base, you know? Yeah. I know that it's blown up since it was first introduced, but Topps never expected this to be as big of a release as it's become. So yeah, of course the print run has blown up, but it's just become such a popular release. And then there's still the crazy demand for it, even with how much it's blown up. Do you have the year-over-year numbers of how much this print run has increased? Let me pull that up. Go ahead and move on, and I'll see if I can pull it up and compare.
[00:10:20] Okay. Might take me just a minute here. Then I guess we'd get right into the inserts. There's no relics in this, by the way. You do have the chrome finish. And then as far as the inserts go, again, these aren't necessarily going to be in order of rarity. Just based off of I'm using Cardsmith Breaks for their checklist. They have the most organized one that I can find. But we will start with the base cards anti-gravity variation. So this isn't for every base card. This is just for 25 of them.
[00:10:47] We have base, black out of 10, red, and super fractures. And these are all pretty, pretty solid names. Judge, Otani, Skeens, Witt, Acuna, Ellie, Vladdy Jr., Connor Griffin, Nick Kurtz, Julio, Juan Soto, Roman Anthony, Jack Keggs, Murakami, DeLauder, Burns, Benj, Weatherholt, and McGonagall. So I've got some numbers here whenever you're ready. I'm ready to hear them.
[00:11:13] So the total cards in the product this year is a little over 5.8 million. Last year is almost 5.5, 5.47 million. So there is a print run increase, but not much. It's 7% over last year. I'm okay with that. 73,000 hobby boxes this year, a little over 9,000 cases. Last year there were 68,000 and some change on the boxes. So like less than 10%, right? Yeah. Yeah. If it's less than 10%, I'm okay with that increase. There's always going to be an increase.
[00:11:43] But as long as it's nothing absurd, I'm on board with it. Yeah. This is a product that if they jumped it up by 40%, it would make a lot of people mad. Because I bet you the price wouldn't go down. Have you seen any? So I just read over the anti-gravity variations. Have you seen any pictures of these? I have not. I have not seen them. Yeah. I'm interested to see what these are going to look like. I'm trying to see if there's anything that I could assume is it, but nope.
[00:12:12] And yeah, these aren't usually one to be ripped early. So it's not like it's going to a retailer or anything like that. So yeah, we don't know what these look like, but they look to be pretty rare for, you know, starting out the variations. Just having the three different parallels with it. Yeah. So they're more than a case hit. One of 961 packs. And I've got the print run about 60 on each of those. It's 25 card checklist. I've got 60 of each is the print run.
[00:12:39] So we come out to about 75, 76 of each guy with the parallels included. Okay. So yeah, those are going to be tough hits for sure. Then we have, this has become a fan favorite. This next, well, a few of them are fan favorites because this whole set is awesome. Uh, but next up we have the constellation variations and this is, I'll go over the checklist really quick. 25 guys and all big names here. Really not many stinkers.
[00:13:06] Otani, Mookie Betts, Skeens, PCA, Kunia, Trapp, Lador, Murakami, Chase Burns, Connor Griffin, McGonagall, Roman Anthony, Mizorowski, Bryce Eldridge, Schlittler, Benj, Judge, Weatherholt, DeLauder, McLean, Keggs, South Stewart. I said almost every name on there. So it really wasn't any work skipping. So these are reworked a little bit from last year, but if you are not familiar with this set in general, so Topps just released a bunch of pictures too.
[00:13:34] It's a black and white card set against a night sky, but then you also have, so you have a bunch of stars and everything and it's the player and he's kind of wrapped in a constellation, which I think kind of takes away from the card. I wish that those, so it's very brightly dotted with stars around the outline of the player. I kind of wish that wasn't there. I feel like it takes away from the card a little bit. It just, there's no constellation that's a connect the dots quite like that. Right. Constellations are usually very basic.
[00:14:03] It's usually eight stars or so. This looks like each guy has 50 stars to make the entire outline. Yeah. They went a little harder on the, on the player. It seems like this year, you know, more of a player graphic as opposed to in the past. I feel like it was more, more attention on the, on the, the stars in the past. Maybe not so many of them, but like you didn't say the, see the player graphic on top of that. So, so bold. I don't know. I think they, I love them, but I feel like they might've taken a tiny bit, a bit of a step back. Yeah.
[00:14:32] I think they need to scale it back a bit for sure. There's still awesome hits. No, this is nitpicking. But if you have to compare it last year to this year, that would be my assessment of it. And they go for a ton. The last so tiny that sold did $3,000 and it was just authentic. I was lucky enough to hit one last year. I don't remember who it wasn't anyone major. It was a rookie. It was actually a cereal too. So I gotta sweat that out. All right.
[00:15:01] Then we have the cosmic dust variation. I believe this one is new for this year. Those have, those have been in the past as well. I think they get a little bit overlooked. They're not, I don't know, like for some reason, they're not some of the most popular ones in the, in the checklist, but they're always super rare. Yeah. Maybe that, maybe I was just overlooking in the past, but I'm looking at it here and the car looks really great. It looks like it's like a color blast in the background.
[00:15:29] You have cosmic dust, bold letters in the bottom, and you got a couple of like bubbles in there too. I don't know what that's all about. And this has been a complaint of mine. I already mentioned it before. I wish it did not say the word cosmic dust on the card. I wish the card stand for itself a little bit. I got to agree with you on that. Yeah. Yeah. Once you've seen one, you probably would know what it is anyway. Yeah. It might take away, you know, with that big old, the wording on there. I think those look better than they have in the past.
[00:15:57] And that's one of the ones I think looks better as it's bolder. And I hope there's some sort of like mini diamond or something refractor type. I can't tell from the picture, but it'd be nice if there were sparkles or something, you know, where it's not just a plain refractor. And it looks like as far as I'm seeing, it only has the base for cosmic dust. So I don't think we're going to be fortunate enough to get those this year. But with SSPs, usually I'm okay with that depending on the SSP. Yeah.
[00:16:26] You know how on the hidden gems, even like the base hidden gem will have like the, it'll look like a mini diamond or something like, you know, some sort of refractor look to it. I think that one's just begging for that. I don't know if it is or not until I see one, but I think that begs for some sort of refractor, you know, cool look to it. I hear you. So are those bubbles or maybe they're plant? They're planets. Moons, planets. I don't know. I think it would look better without those without the word topic dust at the bottom. Let the card stand on its own.
[00:16:56] But as far as the checklist goes, we got 25 cards and just base. George, Otani, Witt, Soto, Ellie, Acuna, Skims, Yamamoto, Tatis, Vladdy, Nick Kurtz, Trout. And then we have our rookies cards, 13 through 25. So 13 rookies, Roman Anthony, Jack Kags, Visayo, Bryce Eldridge, Chase Burns, McLean, Connor Griffin, Mizorowski, Murakami, Schlittler, Weatherholt, Bazzana, and McGonagall.
[00:17:25] Very solid checklist here. Really, really good checklist. I'm very happy. Yeah, it looks like Otani didn't have one last year, but just in general, those don't go for near as much as the constellations or anything like that. And they're printed this. There's only, print runs like 100 on the cosmic dust. So that and the constellation should be, they have the same odds. And the constellation is just so different and so much more unique, I guess. Yeah.
[00:17:56] Yeah. But cosmic dust should make a bit more of a push this year. But I could see it looking like more of a basic insert rather than an SP. But they definitely leaned into that SP imagery a little more. Or SSP, depending on. Yeah. I'm happy with that. I think they look better. They take those words off there, it'd be even better. But I feel like they did better than in the past. Next up, we have a common insert. We have extraterrestrial talent.
[00:18:25] And we have eight different parallels. Blue Moon out of 99 starts it out. Green Space Us. Gold, Orange. I'm not going to read the space names. Lunar, Black, Red, and Super Frackers. This is 35 cards. We're going to start off with a batch of rookies. Jack Keggs, Besaya, Roman Anthony, Sal Stewart, Chase Burns, Noel McLean, Bubba Chandler, Yosavage, Eldridge, Schlittler, Oyoba Tani on this, Yamamoto, Freddie Freeman, Aaron Judge, Nick Kurtz, Bryce Harper,
[00:18:54] Connor Griffin, Trout, Ellie, Skeens, Witt, Acuna, PCA, JJ Weatherholt, Carson Bauer, Benji McGonagall. So, yeah, this is just one of your base inserts. Don't really sell for anything crazy. It's a fun card. It fits the theme. But overall, it's a pretty basic insert, I think. Yeah, I agree.
[00:19:21] Then we have Launched Into Orbit. This is going to be our die cut. And Topps Chrome, Cosmic Chrome has always had die cuts for as long as I can remember. I think Stellanova, when it first started out. Do they still have Stellanova in here? Yes. Yeah. Okay. They're not one of the rarest ones, and they're not one of the most common. They're kind of somewhere in the middle.
[00:19:50] So, these Launched Into Orbit cards look fantastic, at least from the auto that I'm looking at. I think they look really great. I wish they weren't a die cut, though. I think that this card could stand on its own without that. What do you think? Yeah, and I don't think they're... In the past, they've been... I feel like they were a case hit. At least a year or two ago, they were selling one per case. And they don't sell for much. I'm a Soto guy, so I buy all the Soto rare inserts and stuff. Those things are super cheap.
[00:20:17] 10, 15 bucks, you can get a Soto as a case hit. So, yeah, they haven't really caught on. It's weird. I didn't know you were a Soto guy. I got a ton of Soto. I got some nice inserts. It makes sense for you. I've liked him for a long time. I don't know, man. He's just been around so long, and he's still young. It's just wild. I think he's got a lot of... He's going to set a lot of records with... If he can have some longevity. I'll start sending in my Soto hits. But, yeah, I wish this was not a die cut. Die cuts are tough to grade.
[00:20:46] And this card itself, it looks like it's a die cut just for the sake of being a die cut. I like the look. It's kind of got that classic sci-fi kind of look to it, which I love. I don't know if it's the lettering. It gives me the Tomorrowland kind of vibes to it. I don't know if I'm alone on that. But... And then the parallels. This is the Black Eclipse. It looks like. And it just looks awesome. Little circly things. I just think it looks really cool.
[00:21:16] But... Anyway, the names on here. We have actually a pretty large checklist for this. And we have a lot of parallels. We have seven. Green Space. Gold. Orange. Lunar. Black. Red. And Super. So a lot of names on this checklist. This could be a fun rainbow to go for. Or a fun set to complete. But I definitely would not recommend getting these graded. Big Dumper. Otani. Judge. Common Arrow. Juan Soto. Alonzo. Kurtz. Julio. Ellie. Acuna.
[00:21:46] Harper. Trout. PCA. And then we have Eldridge. Oh, we do have some legends in here. Reggie Jackson. Willie Mays. Ken Griffey Jr. Poo Halls. Big Poppy. Babe Ruth. George Brett. Chipper Jones. Mickey Mantle. Sammy Sosa. Frank Thomas. Miggy. Hank Aaron. And then we have a few rookies surrounded out. Kags. Cole Montgomery. Roman Anthony. Marikami. So this is the first time I'm seeing any legends on this checklist for this release.
[00:22:15] Today, I would say if you are doing player breaks, beware. If these guys are not showing up anywhere else on the checklist, don't just buy a player blindly. Make sure you're checking to see because you don't want to be buying a paying a premium for a Mickey Mantle spot or a Griffey spot. It's going to be a premium because he's still a guy that you can expect autos from. Hopefully, if they have launched into orbit Griffey autos, I am all in. I saw some Griffey auto. I can't remember where I saw it and which one it was.
[00:22:48] Let's see. I'm sure when we get into the auto part of this checklist, it'll come up. It'll probably be on the launch into orbit. I wouldn't be surprised. But make sure. Yeah, it sure is. Yeah. Launch into orbit autograph. Yeah. That. For a Mariner, I feel like that card really lends to it. It kind of gives you a base needle vibes. Like the baseball design on the side. And yeah, I feel like he's a perfect player for this card. He's a perfect player for a lot of cards. Best swing ever. Oh, that'll be good. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:23:16] But long checklist for that. Next up, we have Mars Attacks MLB. So we saw Mars Attacks getting a new top release this year. And now they are back with... These are SSP, right? Yes. Let me check my print runs. They are... Oh, yeah. Print run about 100 on those. So they're going to be right there along with the Constellations and the other one, the Cosmic Dust.
[00:23:46] Are they all the same print run? From a total card standpoint, it's going to be much less than those guys because there's just 10 guys on the checklist. Mm-hmm. So you're not going to see them come out as often just because there's less total cards, but the rarity on a per-card basis. And that's a good checklist, too. That's 10 good names. Yeah. Roman Anthony, Jack Heggs, Jojo, Tiny Acuna, PCA, Skeens, Griffin, Weatherholt, and McGonagall. Roman Anthony is probably the worst name on the checklist here.
[00:24:11] Which, yeah, if you said six months ago, seven months ago, yeah, that would have been crazy thoughts. But, yeah, strong, strong checklist. No parallels for this. This is just base. I see what these cards look like. I'm not too impressed. Yeah. They remind me of when they had the Jason Dominguez Martian parallels. Mm-hmm. And those were not as popular as they should have been.
[00:24:38] Also, they were Jason Dominguez and not players like this. But, yeah, I don't know if these are going to—these are not going to sell a GBK to me, in my opinion. And that's my easiest comparison. It doesn't have that crossover fan base, but— Probably not. I don't know. I kind of like the look of them. I also—I remember that movie from when I was—gosh. I mean, I was like 18, 19 years old and saw that movie. So I do have some—you know, it has some nostalgia for me.
[00:25:08] Now, I wasn't around when the first cards came out in 1962 or whatever it was. But the movie was kind of a campy, you know, fun watch. So I think they're cool. I don't know. They might catch on to older guys like myself. But I don't—I think they look kind of cool. Well, I was very into the Mars Attacks cards. Yeah, for sure. We reached out to you about them. Yeah, I appreciate that, too. No problem. But, yeah, I was very into the movie as well. I don't remember how old I was, but I did remember seeing it in theaters.
[00:25:36] My brother went there for his birthday and brought a bunch of his friends and myself, his younger brother. So I remember seeing it in the theaters, and I was all in on Michael J. Fox at the time. I was very into the Back to the Future movies. And I remember as a kid being so disappointed. Spoiler alert, he dies pretty close to the beginning. And I was so disappointed. So maybe that's what a bit of taste in my mouth. I still like the movie, but I just traumatized from him not making it. I get it.
[00:26:08] These next ones I love. I don't think they really get the love they deserve. Planetarium. So these are the thick cardstock. These are rare, and they look awesome. These kind of have the—if you remember from Topps Chrome Black, Death of Darkness, one of those where it's like the layered cards, where it's got like that 3D look to it. And these look so cool. We got 25 guys in the checklist. We have base, black out of 10, red, and super fractures.
[00:26:39] So going to be tough hits. But once again, solid, solid checklist. I really like what they're doing with these checklists so far on these, like, SSPs. These are the guys, Judge, Otani, Skeens, Witt, Acuna, Julio, PCA, Kurtz, Henderson, Corbin Carroll, Vladdy Jr. And then we round it out with 13 rookies. Roman Anthony, Jack Keggs, Basile, Eldridge, McLean, Mizorowski, Griffin, Murakami, Yusavage, Burns, DeLauter, Weatherholt, Benj, and McGonagall.
[00:27:07] So, yeah, I may as well name all 25 guys because they're all 25 really solid guys in the checklist here. Yeah, that's solid. Those are even more rare than the other ones we discussed so far. So the print run on those, just the base is about 60 copies. The Otani from last year, he had Planetarium last year, and those are still a $1,300, $1,400 card. So they do hold up pretty well. Yeah, this might be my favorite. I don't know. It's so tough to say with such a fun set like this.
[00:27:37] But when you have so many different cards vying for a favorite, you know it's a good set. Yeah, for sure. I don't know. Have you seen, I don't know if I've seen one of these in hand. I've seen the Depths of Darkness, and I know those are super thick. I know what they, are these just as thick? Are these a super thick 180 or 360 point card or something like that? I'd assume so. I had not seen them in hand either.
[00:28:03] But I have to assume just, I'm pretty sure you see where it looks like it's like five cards glued together. Yeah, and I don't recommend grading these either. These are tough, tough card. Have you seen any renderings of these from this year? Okay, I haven't either. I just think in the past, I feel like they could have, like they might have been a touch dull. Like they could use some, like maybe they could throw some highlights behind it or something to make it a little brighter.
[00:28:32] I feel like there's some room to make them more like eye-catching. I think they're awesome. But I feel like, you know, if they're making everything more bold and bright this year, like maybe they did those too, you know? I don't know. Yeah, I wish they did more with, you know, just like with Depth of Darkness, I feel like this year they took a step back in the design of it. I feel like with that technology for making a card, there's so many different fun things you could do. Yeah. Dude, they could have like little LED lights in there or something, just make it fantastic, you know?
[00:29:01] I mean, I'm sure we're not far from just putting like a little battery in there. They're putting it in some of the boxes. Some of the leaf boxes have little, you open it up and it lights up. Pretty cool. So, yep, I feel like they could do it with a card. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, one of my favorite inserts, definitely. Tough, tough hit though. And then this one has been a popular mainstay, Planetary Pursuit. So we have 100 cards on the checklist, but that is not representative of how many players are on the checklist
[00:29:30] because we have the nine planets plus the sun. So every player has 10 cards. So I guess it's 10 players on the checklist? Yes. So if you're new to this or you just don't know, Planetary Pursuit pretty much gives a player with a planet and then it goes in rarity from the sun to Pluto. And if you don't remember elementary school, it goes, I'm cheating.
[00:29:57] Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune. Pluto is the rarest. Those rarities go really, really rare by the time it gets a Pluto. How many Plutos are you seeing? So for a run on the Plutos is five, five copies each. And I'm glad they, in the last, I think they did last year too, but they just started giving us the odds on those. A couple of years ago, we didn't have any odds on the Planetary. So we just had to guess.
[00:30:26] But we do know now. So that's fun. Pluto is five. The Neptunes right next to it is seven copies. Uranus is 12. It goes up from there. Saturn has 20 copies. So if you get any of those like last five, Jupiter is 30 copies. So the last five planets are all 30 copies or less. So they're all super, super rare. Yeah. This is one of the most fun, I guess, rainbows. I say that in quotations because it's not rainbows. It's a solar system.
[00:30:55] But if I ever hit Pluto, I'd imagine I'd want so badly to chase the other planets. But these cards sell for so much. It is tough. The rarest one I have is a Jackson Holiday. I want to say Neptune, but that was as a substitution replacement from Topps. I have that around me somewhere. But yeah, that's probably the rarest one that I've ever gotten. Yeah, these are tough to hit. Pluto's are the equivalent of a run out of five.
[00:31:24] And as far as the checklist of players goes, we're going to start out with Judge Inotani, Soto, Bobby Wood Jr., Skeens, Roman Anthony. Wish there was a different rookie there. Murakami, Connor Griffin, McGonigal, Weatherholt. So pretty solid overall. I can't complain. But Roman Anthony is definitely the one out of those 10 that you'd rather hit one of the other guys for sure.
[00:31:54] Maybe when they printed it, it wasn't as pronounced, the difference. I like that there's five rookies in this. If the complaints I've seen about this in the past have been, it's the same guys every year, it seems like. The top five, this is probably, they've got a number of them now. So it's nice to see them change out a little bit. I think people like Jose Ramirez, you're just your bonafide superstars that get overlooked a little. I think those guys need planetaries. And they just haven't gotten them yet.
[00:32:22] Yeah, and it's not like it's Topps Chrome where you're going to see multiple releases for Chrome update or flagship where you see multiple releases. This is a once a year thing. So if you don't get it that year, you've got to wait a whole year to see one of those guys, hopefully. But there's also design change this year. You got that black hole vector in the background. Gives me like Death Star vibes of like a blueprint of the Death Star for whatever reason. That's what I think of when I see it. Different design this year. I'm okay with it. I know there's different thoughts on it. What do you think on this design?
[00:32:52] I don't dislike it. I think it's great. They do change. I feel like they've gotten better every year so far. I would say this one may be lateral to last year. Maybe not better. But I don't think I'd call it worse. I feel like they could do without the cartoony lines on there. The black hole looking thing you're talking about. But overall, I think the cards look fantastic. I like the lines. I don't know. I'm trying to imagine it without it. I'm good with it.
[00:33:19] They were obviously going for that across the product with the different, you know, we see those like more rectangular vector lines on the base cards and the base all those. So they're going for an overall vibe with it. I'd like to see how it stands up against other ones. It's hard to say until you have it in hand because the mock-up can only do so much. So I do like that they change them a little bit every year. They could just do new guys every year and not really change the design. Then you have a kaboom.
[00:33:49] You know what I mean? They don't really change the design of this. I like this that they use some creativity and change them a bit every year. And I think they've done really good. Like I said, I think they've gotten better every single year so far. And for those of you that don't know your planets, they do this year put, I don't think they've done this in the past, but in the top left corner, they put what number planet it is. So you'll see a number one for sun, technically not a planet, of course, for rarity. And then Jupiter has a six next to it. So you'll be able to see just how rare of a hit that is.
[00:34:19] Just buy that if you don't know your planets and you're trying to remember. Next up, we have a more common insert. We have our star fractures. These have been cool in the past. Definitely not the star of the show. No pun intended. But we got base, orange, black, red, and pink. I believe these were cases in the past. We have 100 guys on this checklist. So it's a huge checklist. Ton of rookies. The first 35 players are all rookies.
[00:34:49] Jack Keggs, Roman Anthony, Visayo, Eldridge, McLean, DeLauder, Sal Stewart, Schlitler, Tong, Mizorowski, Murakami, Okamoto, Peyton Tully.
[00:35:02] And then we start to get into Aaron Judge, Otani, Trout, Witt, Soto, Jose Ramirez, Scoobo, Lacuna, Harper, Corman Carroll, Nick Kurtz, Alonzo, Churio, Yamamoto, Mookie Betts, DeGrom, Justin Verlander, Ben Rice, Bazzana, Connor Griffin, Benj, Weatherholt, McGonagall. So yeah, solid checklist of guys, but there's a lot. Do these look like they might be like a case hit this year?
[00:35:32] They're pretty rare. They're actually more rare than they were last year. Last year, there's 85 copies each of the base version. And this year, there's about 50. It's a little tighter than last year. So they're pretty rare. One in 282 packs. So that would be one in 14 boxes. So basically roughly one in two cases. Yeah, sounds about right. Okay. Then we have our stars in the night. This is just 25 guys.
[00:36:02] It looks like 13 rookies. No, 15 rookies. Base. And then we have green, gold, orange, lunar, black, red, and super. Roman Anthony, Jack Hags, Bazzana, Connor Griffin, Sal Stewart, Schlittler, Eldridge, Mizorowski, Bubba Chandler, Weatherholt, McGonagall, PCA, Alonzo, Skeens, Judge, Corbin Carroll, Ellie, and Otati is not on this part of the checklist. Look at that. Well, it's a little bit of a bummer. Sorry.
[00:36:31] He's all over. Yeah. His card, his stars in the night from last year goes for crazy money. And that's not even really rare. Yeah, man. You know, we haven't even gotten to the autos yet. You know, we were spending all. The inserts are really one of the big things you're looking for because autos are so tough. Yeah. So I'm okay with spending so much time on these inserts. So the stars in the night, let me just clarify that just a little bit. So those are one in four boxes and the print run on that is about 730.
[00:36:59] So more rare than those other rare inserts we're talking about, but not near as common as the other ones. But like the Otani from last year, just the base stars the night is a $1,500 card. For being not even a rare insert, that's just insane to me. Last year, there were more of them. So last year, there was print runs 2,700 copies. And that's a $1,500 card. That's wild. They were one per box last year. So this year, they're one in four boxes. So they're quite a bit more rare than they were last year.
[00:37:30] And that brings us to our next insert. I mentioned this one earlier. It's Stellanova. It's back with 25 cards. You had the base. And then you have the same instance as the last one. Green, gold, orange, lunar, black, red, super. Roman Anthony, Jack Higgs, Eldridge, Burns, McLean, Yusavage, Montgomery, Mizarowski, Carson Williams, Schlittler, Bazzana, DeLauder, Connor Griffin, Weatherholt, Benj, McGonagall. Just five vets on here, it looks like. Sasaki, Kurtz, PCA, Kamonero.
[00:37:59] Actually, maybe that's just four. Yeah, just four vets on this, which is unusual for sure. Usually, you have a more even split or it's usually more vet heavy. Yeah. But as far as I don't see how they look this year, these have been die cut in the past. And I have liked the look of these, but they never really sold for what you'd expect for something as rare as they are. Right.
[00:38:25] Those are the exact same print run as the Stars in the Night this year. Makes sense. So, 730 copies each, which is a big change from last year. So, I was just looking at last year's and those were really rare, like one per 10 boxes. So, they were 280 was the print run last year. So, this year they've like 3X that. Yeah. So, last year was up like more like a case. And years passed, I believe too. Stellar Stars is next.
[00:38:54] So, this insert has, it's a more symmetrical look on the card. It's got kind of, looks like a compass rose kind of thing in the background. They have autos of this as well. We got 25 cards in the checklist. This is going to be a more common insert, it looks like. Like Otani, Witt, Soto, Carroll, Scooble, Connor Griffin, Mike Trout, Tatis Jr., Jack Hex, Roman Anthony, Eldridge, Basayo, Chase Burns, Murakami, Schlittler, Weatherholt, Benj, McGonagall.
[00:39:24] And this has Blue Moon at a 99, along with seven other parallels. One of the most common inserts, print run, 7,320 copies each. Supernova's next up. This just has base cards, no parallels for this. 25 guys on the checklist. No rookies, though.
[00:39:46] Judge, Soto, Vladdy Jr., Witt, Freeman, Trout, Otani, Acuna, Lindor, Skeens, Ellie, Harper, Julio, Nick Kurtz. We do have rookies, but they're not marked on rookies on this. Yusavage, Chase Burns, McLean, Mizorowski, Basayo, Jack Hex, Roman Anthony, Murakami.
[00:40:09] So those are interesting because last year, the base had 100 copies and there were parallels as well to 10, 5, and 1. So this year, the base is 50 copies and there are no parallels. So they're a really tough hit. From what I remember, they don't carry a ton of value. Kind of like the Stellanovas. They probably get confused because they're such a similar name, but I don't think they sell for a ton. I don't think so either. Yeah, I don't remember these that were selling for a ton.
[00:40:38] And I think these are also, they look like they're die cut, but they're not. They got like a shape to it where it looks like it should be like a circular die cut, but does it not have a die cut? They're cool looking cards, but just against such a strong insert SSP list, it just doesn't come out on top, unfortunately. It might be a sneaky play for looking for value, like in rare stuff. You know, these are twice as rare as they were last year with no parallels.
[00:41:06] They don't sell for like the SE from the 25 Acuna sells for $60. The Skeen's PSA 10 was $220. So they don't sell for a ton. But I mean, if you're looking for a rare card that you can get fairly cheap, that might be a good one to have, you know. I always say it's a good thing to have like sneaky rare copies of your PC guys. Because they're probably not going to go down in value when people realize how rare they are, but they could always go up. So I don't know. I like those as value plays.
[00:41:35] Yeah, usually I never recommend buying close to release day, but with only 50 copies of these guys each, you're going to have to monitor it for sure and find a price that works for you. And you might just have to pull the trigger early. You might risk losing a couple bucks, but just 50 cards overall, really, if you don't pull the trigger early, you might just never see that card again after a little. The Lasso Tiny sold for $400 at auction. And that's a print run of $100 from last year. So that seems like a fairly good deal, really.
[00:42:07] Triple star clusters. So this is just seven cards. And this has three guys, usually teammates on the card. Could be like rookies, though, or something. Just seven cards. We have blue at a 99 along with seven other parallels down to super factors. We have a Yankees one, Judge Jeter-Garrick. Dodgers, Otani, Freeman, Betts. We have a trio of rookies, Burns, Mizorowski, Chandler.
[00:42:34] And Red Sox, we have Roman Anthony, Big Poppy, Garcia-Parran. Mets, we have Soto, Lindor, and Bichette. Braves. We have Acuna, Chipper Jones, Greg Maddox. And then we have another trio of rookies. Connor Griffin, J.J. Weatherholt, Kevin McGonagall. If you're doing a player break, I doubt this is your chase. But for whatever reason it is, just be careful here. Actually, it doesn't have to be a player break. This could be a team break. This really shouldn't be your chase, though, so that wouldn't really work. Yeah. Those are deceptively common.
[00:43:02] The odds are 1 in 29 packs, so they're actually going to be less than one per box. But there's only seven on the checklist, so the print runs over 7,200 copies each. So they might be a little deceptive as to how often you see them compared to how common they actually are. Yeah, you should be able to find one of each per case, maybe. Yeah. We have dual star clusters, so same thing. Same parallel structure. PCA and Bregman with the Cubs. Otani Yamamoto with the Dodgers. Mariners have Julio and Big Dumper. Reds, Ellie, and Ken Griffey Jr.
[00:43:33] Judge and Mickey Mantle for the Yankees. Wynn and George Brett for the Royals. Phillies have Harper and Schwarber. Mets have McLean and Bench. McLean and Bench I like. That is a nice card. Okay, I'll take that. Yeah, that's a cool one. Forces of the Diamond is up next. This is a 22-card checklist. And same parallel structure as the last couple, so just eight parallels total. And we have 22 guys. We have Legends on here as well. Jeter, Ripken, A-Rob, Pujols, Brett, Chipper Jones.
[00:44:02] Bazzana looks like the lone rookie here. Miggie, Frank Thomas. Jackie Rob, Robinson. Valdi Jr., Bobby Witt. Jose Ramirez, Nick Kurtz, and Harper. So that rounds out our inserts. And then let's get into our autos. So autos are super hard to hit. Did you say how many boxes per auto? Yeah, so the autos should fall one in about 2.7 boxes.
[00:44:31] So that's, what, three per case? Yeah, you'd be lucky to get three per case. Yeah. So two or three per case. I'm sure there's going to be cases where you have one. There's going to be cases where you have four. Or hopefully it ends up following the mean a little. Yeah, so about 37% of boxes should have an auto. Which a lot of people do complain about that. Because the price you're paying for a box. Like when you're basically hitting one out of three boxes as an auto. But I don't know. Imagine if they had an auto per box.
[00:45:00] You'd be talking about a $2,000 box. In years past, Cosmic Chrome, even though the autos were so rare. When you hit an auto, they were such solid players. It looks like that's not quite the case this year. So we're about to get into the checklist. So autos should not be your hunt. The autos are awesome in this. Don't get me wrong. Your hunt has to be the SPs and the parallels. Yeah, just because the checklist just really is not strong. If you're paying a premium to chase a guy's auto,
[00:45:30] I would really try to, if there are guys that don't have autos, but they show up on the SP checklist strongly, I would say hunt those guys. That would be my advice on this. Because we're going to start out with the Cosmic Chrome auto variation. We have base and then the green space starts at out of 75. We have gold, orange, lunar and black out of 10. Red and super fracture. We have, so 58 cards in the checklist. And there are a lot of rookies.
[00:45:59] There are a ton of vets, but not a ton of great vets. Because we're starting out with Bubba Chandler, Brady House, Chase Burns, Benj, Corbin Carroll, DeLauder, Carter Gentian, Cam Schlittler, Wisenhut, Jack Kags, Mizorowski, Jonah Tong, Weatherholt, Connor Griffin, McGonagall, Murakami, Max Freed,
[00:46:24] Nolan McLean, Randy Arazzarena, Roman Anthony, Basayo, Sal Stewart, Pazana, Imai, Yosavage, Trey Turner. So yeah, I named a lot of solid rookies, but I skipped over a ton here. And I really didn't skip over any of the big vet names. And you didn't hear any big vet names. So yeah, there's definitely some guys in there you would be pretty upset to hit as your auto out of one out of three boxes for sure.
[00:46:54] Yeah, not the ones you said, but there's some, there's some real space fillers on that list. You know, this is tough. This is tough for sure. Imagine getting a Dylan Beavers auto. You sweat that auto because you just don't hit him that much. And it's a Dylan Beavers. Yeah, there's some not, not great names here for sure. Then we have extraterrestrial talent autograph variation. So this is 20 cards, same parallel structure.
[00:47:23] And we definitely have better players here. We have Bobby Witt Jr. starting out the right way. Chase Burns, Tatis Jr., Jack Kagt, Churio, Mizorowski, Soto, Tan, James Wood, Nick Kurtz, Polskins, Roman Anthony, and Otani here. So, you know, Tan, I doubt has base in this. We were talking about before the show how just the players are not represented the same, even if they're on the same checklist.
[00:47:52] I would not expect Otani to show up as much as a Brady House, for example. Oh, I miss James Wood. I don't think I said him, but James Wood is on the checklist here too. That's a good name to have. But yeah, very, very solid checklist here. And these cards are going to be terribly tough to hit, I'm assuming, just because we do have the same parallel structure. But I'll let you tell me, this is your area. Well, if you base it on the odds alone, they're about five times as hard to hit. But also the checklist is a lot smaller.
[00:48:18] Print runs, and as we discussed, this is hard to just kind of go by the odds on the print runs because there's so many instances where like the guys don't sign all the parallels. But this is an average. Average on the base autos of that subset is 110 copies a person. Compare that to the ones you just went over, the Cosmic Chrome autos. And that's about 185 would be the print run on those, just the base unnumbered ones. That makes total sense. And yeah, it's 20 cards compared to 58.
[00:48:46] So let's call it one third of the players. But it comes out one fifth of the time. So, you know, it's definitely going to be harder to hit for sure. But just the player checklist is so shortened. And but it's nice to see that the it has the same parallel structure. So to get into like the big parallels, you have like the same odds. Stellar Stars autographs. And we talked about this for the inserts before. It's kind of like that. I don't know if you call it Compass Rose, but that's what it looks like to me in the background.
[00:49:16] It's got. I don't I wouldn't describe it as stained glass, but it's definitely not that very symmetrical card looks OK. I believe these are all on card. I don't think Cosmic does really any sticker autos, at least that I can't remember. But as far as the checklist goes, we have 21 cards and we just have base black out of 10 red and super fractures. So that alone tells you how tough these are going to be to hit.
[00:49:43] Bubba Chandler, DeLauder, McLean, Casey, Roman Anthony and Trey Savage is our rookies. For the vets, we have Ellie, Corbin Carroll, Common Arrow, Jackson Holiday, James Wood, Mookie Betts, Mike Trout. Paul Skeen, Zucunia, Sasaki, Yamamoto and Wheeler. So pretty OK checklist. Not the best checklist missing some of the really huge names, but we really have some top tier names, I would say.
[00:50:11] Yeah, those are really tough to the the base copies are like less than 50 per person. So those are going to be a tough pull. Those does it look to you like those have some serious potential? Just the design of the card. Like imagine if that were like a stained glass and had that background of a stained glass. Man, that could be a really nice looking card. And I don't think they will. But, you know, if that'd be a nice little addition, if they ever wanted to change that, that looks that could look good.
[00:50:40] That's one of those cards where I wish it's just a mock up again. But the white is so pronounced on it. I wish the white was a little less pronounced. I know that it helps the autograph stand out, but it just it could be such a clean card. I almost I know, of course, autographs are king, but as just a base like a red without the auto will look so clean compared to an auto. So, of course, I'd rather have the auto.
[00:51:04] But just from an aesthetic standpoint, it's so clean as base card compared to an auto card. Yeah. Then we have launch into orbit autographs. We have base black out of 10 red and super fractures. This is where you're going to find we were talking about this before. Some of those legends side here. And we have some big, big signers here. 32 cards. We're going to start off with Judge and Poo Halls.
[00:51:30] Barry Bonds, Bryce Eldridge, Beltran with the Mets, Chipper Jones, Colson Montgomery, Calrican Jr., Big Poppy, Ellie Lindor, Frank Thomas, Jack Keggs, Kaminaro, Ken Griffey Jr. with the Reds. That's unfortunate. Yeah, that's an important distinction, too. With the Reds, because I was saying how he would fit so well as a Mara on this card. We're going to circle back to this in a second. Murakami, McGuire with the Athletics.
[00:51:57] Mike Trapp, Nick Kurtz, PCA, Reggie Jackson, Basayo. Otani's here. Sammy Sosa, Wyatt Langford. So, yes, this would look fantastic if Murphy was with the Mariners. I will say, though, that the trim of this card. So we were talking about this before. This is a die-cut card where it gives me that Tomorrowland vibes. It's got a scorching baseball going from bottom to top. And it's got, like, a red trail on it.
[00:52:27] And then it's got a red bubble in the corner giving some names. Journey to Outer Space. That's what it says on there, actually. And this is all in red. So it's kind of a color match without the parallel for Pripy as a red. I think that saves it. Even though I'd still always rather him as a Mariner, I think that saves it quite a bit. Yeah.
[00:52:50] What's fascinating to me is that pretty much any checklist where Griffey is a signer, he is one of the top-end, most expensive ones you can get. But it's like you just don't see that with other baseball legends, you know? The live ones, anyway. It's like it's just so crazy how much his sell for to this day. It's wild. Which I love it. As a kid of the 80s and 90s, I love that, you know?
[00:53:15] I think it's a factor of all those kids now have money. Mm-hmm. Or at least they like to think they do. Yeah. And he's still, if he played today, he'd still be the coolest player in baseball. Uh-huh. Yeah. And just his signature, too. It's just chef's kiss on top of it. Yeah. It's absolutely fantastic. Yeah. He was swagger.
[00:53:41] I like to see the swagger coming up in some of these guys, Acuna and Camonero and all these guys. But he was that. He was all of them combined when nobody else was doing that. Now the guy has swagger and it's like they got to do something just over the top to get noticed. He was that before any of those guys existed. And everyone loved him. The only person I could think of that did not love him was, do you remember the movie Little Big League? Mm-hmm. I think that was the movie he was in. And he was the villain.
[00:54:11] Because, well, he wasn't like the villain of like the overarching movie. But like when they pitched him, he just knocked it out of the park. And then he still looked like the coolest guy on the screen. Mm-hmm. So that one's a throwback. But that's the only time that Griffey's ever been a villain and not liked. Yeah. It was in that movie. Yeah. Everybody, anybody our age, like that was all of our prized possession when we were brought up collecting cards. It was like 89 Upper Deck Griffey. You know? There's 10 million in, but we didn't care.
[00:54:39] That was just, that was the best card they ever made. And I'm not a sneakerhead. I've never been into sneakers. But there's only one pair of sneakers from a player that I wanted. And that was Ken Griffey Jr. sneakers. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think I ever got them, though. I'll give my mom a hard time about it later. And then the baseball version, too. The spikes. Those are so cool. Yeah. Let's get into our dual autos. So, of course, as always, dual autos are very tough hits. I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of these are Redemptions as well. We have in the base, just right out of five in Super Fractors.
[00:55:09] And we got some fun pairings. Right off the bat, we got Judge and Barry Bonds. Mizorowski and Churio. Chase Burns and Ellie for the Reds. Otani and Ichiro. We see them paired up a lot. Jeter and Rivera. Nick Hurts and McGuire. McLean and Tong. I like that one. Trout and Pujols. So, Pujols is with the Angels on this card. Soto and Lindor. And then Witten and Kags. These are some of my favorite cards of the year.
[00:55:39] Just because of the pairings they typically do. Some of these I've seen have been on card. And I feel like some have been stickers. But definitely for sure some of them have been on card. Have we seen another Bonds Judge card? Where they do a lot of those two guys? Do you remember ever seeing one of those? I don't recall. I don't either. And that's a nuke. That would be, to me, that would be the biggest card in this checklist. And they are showing the cards on Twitter. I've posted a couple of them. Okay.
[00:56:08] They showed the Soto Lindor and the Churio Miserowski. The Churio Miserowski, this is Super Fracture they're showing. This can't be a sticker. The way that the auto is set up is it's going across in different parts of the card. Unless it's a fat sticker. Yeah. There's no way. I can tell the look in the Soto is definitely not a sticker. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And they're using the space, which I love. I hate it when players don't use the space that's given. Yeah. The card looks so empty and stupid. Yeah.
[00:56:39] But yeah. I love this set for sure. This is one of my favorites. So these are horizontal landscape cards, by the way. But I don't care. These will be an excellent addition to any PC. These are just so cool. So awesome to have. And the last one that we have is Cosmic Explorer's Cut Signature. These are all non-baseball guys. These, I'm sure, are stupidly hard to hit. And we have 17 guys out here. We have Einstein.
[00:57:10] Okay. These are all space-related guys, now that I think about it. Buzz Aldrin, Carl Sagan, Edwin Hubble, John Glenn, James Webb, Neil Armstrong, Sir Isaac Newton. Okay. And that's pretty much the names that I know. Sally Ride, Gus Grissom. To me, this is my favorite addition as far as changes from other Cosmics in the past. I think this is awesome. Now, obviously, only 17 people are going to get to experience that.
[00:57:39] But I think this is a pretty awesome addition to this, you know, cosmic theme. I think it's awesome. I'd go as far as to say, give these guys an insert. Yeah, absolutely. I think, yeah, because these are people like. Like retro fractures. Yeah. If it's the theme of this, you can even pair them with a player. I don't care. I'd rather them stand on their own. But, yeah, it would just be really cool to have like these as inserts, these different people.
[00:58:09] And, yeah, I just think that would be a really cool addition. Yeah. I love it. I can't wait to see one. I think they'll be great. Yeah. Those coming out in a break, because unless you have a cut signature spot and you should not be buying that, I would say. You can collect Andre Cady's break. But that is going to be a spicy random to the break. Yeah, for sure. Interesting. So there is something I wanted to point out as we went along is, so you said the release is not really centered around autos, and it's not.
[00:58:38] The auto pull rate for a case, it should be about three per case, give or take. It's actually almost identical to the number of rare inserts that are going to come out of a case, too. That should be about three per case. One thing I pulled out was, so the Planetary Pursuits, the sun actually falls more than one per case. I think it's one and a half per case. It's like one per six boxes. So, when I delineate rare inserts, it generally includes anything that's one per case or rarer, right?
[00:59:08] So, when I figured this, I've pulled out the sun, and I put every other Planetary Pursuit in there. So, if you filter out the sun and all the other planetaries, you should get right at three inserts per case, per eight boxes. And if you factor in the sun, you're going to get 2.2 Planetary Pursuits per case. That's what the sun included. Okay. So, your autos and your rare inserts are about the same pull rates from a case.
[00:59:32] So, if you include the sun, then about seven out of eight boxes should have some sort of a Planetary Pursuit rare insert or an auto. So, I think it's one, it was like every one and a half boxes you should pull a rare insert when you include the sun. Okay. So, that's pretty decent. If you're buying this, I definitely recommend if you get off of TopStock.com to get more than a box. Because if you can get one, you can usually get more than one. Yeah.
[01:00:01] But 500 bucks, like, it's still a lot to spend on. You know, I got so many of these, like, SSPs and stuff can go for a decent amount, especially when it gets to, like, the Otani's and stuff. But Otani's down. Which I plan on talking about during the next episode. But, yeah, if you spend 500 bucks on a box, you're still going to, if you decide to flip it, you're going to make your money back at that. So, yeah. Yeah. They're already close to a thousand.
[01:00:30] So, that's what I was discussing. This was, my write-up was before the price dropped, right? And I know they were 350 last year, direct from TopS. That was the drop price. So, I was trying to decide, okay, at what point does this not become a buy? And I was assuming it would be like 400, maybe 420. I expected it to go up some. I didn't expect it to be 490 on pre-order. That's a little excessive, I think. But then I thought about it. It's like, have you ever seen any Cosmic that went down after drop?
[01:01:00] They just don't. They all double in price or more, right? So, even at 500, as lousy as that sounds, it's still an insta-buy if you can get it. What that changes for me is I may not open any. And it hurts my feelings a little bit. I'm getting four boxes. I landed four on the pre-order. And I don't know if I can talk myself into opening any of them. Not when they're reselling for 900 or 1,000 bucks a box. I love to rip. I'm a degenerate. But I'm just not a $1,000 a box ripper kind of guy.
[01:01:30] So, I might just have to sell all of them. Maybe a sell to open to. But it's so hard to just open to. Yeah. Because the one, yep. Yep. That'd be tough. Yeah. This, though, no matter what, though, it's a fun rip. It really is. Just because the cards just look great. It's one of those ones where you can look at every card and you're not just flipping through a bunch of paper. You really have a lot of fun with it. But before we wrap up, though, we did forget lunar boxes. Okay.
[01:01:57] So, I'll let you go ahead and take the lead on these. If you don't know what lunar boxes are, they're extremely tough to hit. I believe last year there were 1 in 57 cases or something like that. And every pack in there has a lunar parallel. It's like a blood red lunar parallel to 10. And then there are autos in lunar boxes as well. That has changed from a couple years ago. But like four or five autos in a lunar box.
[01:02:24] Now, I do want to point out the odds are weird on the lunar box autos this year. And I think they're wrong. They say 1 in 37 lunar packs has an auto. There's only two different ones. There's one in 37 packs and then the other subset is one in 96 packs. And I don't think that can be right because when you do the math on that, it comes out to a print run of two on the autos. And we know that's not right. We know the autos are numbered to 10. We already know that. That's a given. They always are, right? So, I put in the odds that should truly be on those.
[01:02:53] And everything else matches up nicely. So, I'm pretty sure they just mess up the odds on those. But anyway, you should get one parallel to 10 in each pack of those lunar boxes and four to five autos out of each one of those as well. You don't know you hit it until you open it up and you see the packs say lunar on them. I've never had that experience. I would love to. It's one of the coolest things like as far as a treasure hunt chase in this hobby. If you see that, you tell me, Juice, would you be able to rip it?
[01:03:21] If you ripped it open and saw everything, all the packs said lunar on them, would you just keep ripping? I'm ripping. I don't know if I could, man. I'm a value guy. I don't know if I could. I've seen those packs in the past sell for $250 to $500 for one sealed pack. You got 20 of them. Your box is worth thousands of dollars at that point. I'm going to be like, I don't know if I can do it. I don't know if I can do it. I've learned too. Yeah. Hopefully one day I'm lucky enough to have that problem. Yeah.
[01:03:49] Oh, one more thing is there are more this year. So last year there was 150 lunar boxes throughout the product. This year, this went up 33%. There's 200 lunar boxes now. So I thought that was kind of cool. More people are going to get that experience, you know? Yeah. They are so hard to hit. So yeah, it'll be cool to see some more. All right. This has been a long one, but this is such a fun product. So I'm okay with it. That about does it for today. So I have Slab Squatch. I have Corey with me and he does the odds breakdown.
[01:04:18] He gives you the print runs, the analysis on that. Just tell the people one more time. I don't think we mentioned it much in the beginning of the episode where they could find you if they want all that data for them to look at for themselves. So my home base is on X. I'm at Waxmetrics, Slab Squatch Sports Cards on X. That's where you get all the nonsense, all the social media jibber jabber and, you know, all the comments where people are just spreading the love, you know? But I also have a Substack.
[01:04:45] That's where that's focused on strictly these breakdowns. I've got like over 200 of them on there now. I post all my analysis to that. And that's Substack.com slash Slab Squatch. So if you just search for it on there, you'll find it. All right. Well, this was the Talking Cards podcast with Grand Salami and the Juice. Just the juice here, but I have Corey guest hosting Slab Squatch. Thank you so much. Have a great day and good luck with Cosmic Chrome, everyone. Have a good one, Juice. Thanks for having me on.
